Michigan, U.P. Cases Continue Decline; 52,000 New Recoveries Added

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 2,230 new coronavirus positive tests and 20 new deaths.

These are two-day totals, as reports are not issued on Sundays.

The state also is reporting that 755,119 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. That is an increase of 52,000 recoveries in the past week. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.

Michigan now has a total of 876,854 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 18,627 deaths.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 24 new cases reported over the past two days across 12 counties. No U.P. county added more than four new cases, and there were no new deaths were reported in the U.P. on Monday.

The U.P. now has 19,760 confirmed positive test results, and 423 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 5,504 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also has 102,061 “probable cases” and 1,185 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
