It was a weekend to remember former State Senator Tom Casperson in Escanaba.
Casperson served three terms in the state house and two in the state senate before dying last year of lung cancer. A memorial gathering was held at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce building Saturday afternoon, after only a small, private gathering was held due to COVID restrictions at his time of death last year.
Saturday’s event was held on what would have been Tom and Diane Casperson’s wedding anniversary.
On Friday, the US-2-and-41 bridge over the Escanaba River was officially named after Casperson, who was chairman of the Senate Transportation Committtee.
Democratic state representative Sara Cambensy joined her Republican colleagues in praising Casperson during the ceremony, and on social media posts. Congressman Jack Bergman and State Senator Ed McBroom were also among those on hand for the memorial.
