A traffic crash early Saturday on Marquette County Road 550 has left two people dead.
The sheriff says both were in a vehicle that hit a power pole at about one Saturday morning near Wetmore Landing. The car went up in flames. The victims—a man and a woman—were found inside.
The victims have not yet been identified. Deputies say the crash was likely due to alcohol and excessive speed.
County Road 550 was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Marquette Township Fire and EMS, Chocolay Township Fire, UP Health System EMS, NMU Police and Michigan State Police.
