The number of coronavirus cases, fueled by the delta variant, continue to rise across Michigan and parts of the Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday announced 3,127 new positive test results for Thursday and Friday. That’s an average of 1,564 new cases per day.
There were 15 new deaths reported over the past two days in Michigan. State officials also went through old death certficiates and matched them to previous positive tests. They added 14 more deaths to the statewide total.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 68 new cases reported, for an average of 34 per day.
Delta County, by far, had the most, with 29 new cases over the two-day period. That accounts for nearly half of all U.P. new positive tests.
Houghton County added ten cases and there were six new cases in both Marquette and Menominee Counties.
Baraga County reported a new death on Friday.
Eight of the 15 U.P. counties reported either zero or one new case.
