The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday announced 6,079 new positive coronavirus test results and 29 new COVID-related deaths over the two-day period of Tuesday and Wednesday.
That’s an average of 3,040 new cases per day.
State officials also went through old death certificates and matched them to previous positive tests. They added 52 more deaths to the statewide total.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 290 new cases reported on Wednesday, for an average of 145 cases per day. The most were in Marquette County, with 65 new positive tests. There were 40 new cases in Menominee County, 31 in Dickinson County, 16 new cases in Alger County, and 13 in Schoolcraft County.
New COVID-related deaths were reported in Marquette and Mackinac Counties. A previously-reported death in Gogebic County was removed from its total.
