LMAS District Health Department is alerting the public that due to an increase in COVID cases in the four county area, case investigations are being prioritized based on risk.
LMAS averaged 142 cases each week in September, and staff can no longer respond to every positive case on the day it is received.
LMAS is prioritizing school-aged children and employees who work in educational settings, health care providers, and residents in long-term care facilities. We are also working with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) for additional support. Individuals with COVID positive results may be contacted through text, email or by phone from an individual working with MDHHS. It is possible the caller will not have a 906 area code.
LMAS is requesting that individuals who test positive for COVID to complete an isolation period of 10 days, regardless of whether or not you are contacted by the health department. Please also let anyone who was a close contact of yours know that they should monitor for symptoms and quarantine for 10 days from the date of their last contact with you. Individuals that test positive should remain in isolation until each of the following conditions are met:
10 days from when symptoms began or tested positive
Remain fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication
Symptoms are improved
With the rapid increase of cases in the LMAS counties, we need the public to take precautions by masking in indoor places and distancing from others. In addition, if you have not yet received your COVID vaccine, please do so. The vaccines are safe, effective and reduce the risk of serious illness.
Please remember that those who work at LMAS District Health Department live in your communities and we are your neighbors and friends. We care about the health of our communities and are asking you to practice the most basic of public health measures: stay home when sick, wash your hands, cover your coughs and sneezes (wear a mask in public places), get tested for COVID, and get vaccinated if you have not yet done so. These are long-practiced and proven effective public health measures, but we need your help.
