The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday announced 61,235 new positive coronavirus test results and 126 new COVID-related deaths over the past five days.
This was the first report issued since last Wednesday due to the holiday.
State officials also checked old death certificates and matched them to previous positive COVID test results. They added 172 deaths to the statewide total.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were eleven new COVID deaths reported over the holiday. Four of them were in Chippewa County, two in Delta County, and one each in Houghton, Iron, Mackinac, Menominee, and Schoolcraft Counties.
The U.P. added 696 new cases, with the most coming in Marquette County with 266 new positive tests. Delta County had 80 new cases. Chippewa County added 56, Menominee County 43 cases, and Dickinson County added 37 cases.
