The Marquette County Health Department health officer and the leader of U.P. Health System have written a letter to the community about the latest surge of COVID-19.
In the letter, Health Officer Gerald Messana and Hospital CEO Gar Atchison both pleaded with people to get vaccinated, get the booster shot, wear a mask indoors, and also get the flu shot. Hospitals throughout the region, they say, are overburdened and are —quote—operating at the very edge of capacity. They also say that they’re having problems in transferring people to other medical centers outside of the U.P. because they are full. The rate of positive tests topped 35% last week.
