The Marquette Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will be holding two public meetings regarding their plans for a Third St. Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) expansion. The DDA’s primary financial support comes from TIF, which is a mechanism to directly redistribute current property taxes collected back into the downtown community. TIF is not currently collected from the N. Third St. corridor of the downtown district.
These meetings will be an opportunity for different stakeholders to share their ideas regarding TIF expansion and learn more about the project.
- Third Street Business and Property Owners- The Marquette DDA wants to hear from Third Street property and business owners. Please join anytime during a drop-in session to share your ideas for physical improvements, development opportunities, and the needs to be addressed on Third Street on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Marquette Commons, 112 S. Third St. between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
- Downtown and Public Engagement- The downtown community and the general public are invited to attend an informational stakeholder meeting to provide feedback and learn more about the project. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Marquette Commons, 112 S. Third St. at 6 p.m.
Additionally, as part of the proposed Third Street TIF expansion, the DDA is looking to form a Development Area Citizen’s Council- The DDA is looking for residents of the downtown district to advise on their new Development and Tax Increment Financing Plan.
This plan will be a key tool in implementing recommendations for Third Street identified in the 2020 Downtown Marquette Plan. Volunteers are sought for a development area citizens council (DACC) that would be created under Michigan Public Act 57 of 2018. If you live in the district and are interested in helping, or have questions, contact Marquette DDA Executive Director Rebecca Finco at (906) 228-9475, ext. 103 or by email at becky@downtownmarquette.org.
