Heavy snow continues to fall across Marquette County this afternoon, as well as in other parts of the northern and western Upper Peninsula.
Northern Michigan University, which rarely cancels classes, did so on Tuesday, and has now decided to cancel evening classes as well.
The Marquette County Courthouse closed at 2:30 because of the worsening conditions, ending all court proceedings for the day. The Marquette-Alger Community Action Agency did not deliver meals on Tuesday, instead, urging seniors to use their emergency meal supplies.
As of 10:00 this morning, the National Weather Service had reported 8.9 inches of snowfall in Harvey, seven inches in the city of Marquette, and 21 inches of snow at a site four miles north of Negaunee.

Total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches, greatest west of Munising.Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. Heavy snowfall will arrive between 4 PM and 5 PM EST and will continue through 10 PM EST this evening. During that period, snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will occur at times, making travel especially difficult. Northerly winds will become gusty up to 35 mph tonight, creating blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility.
MARQUETTE AND BARAGA COUNTIES: Winter Storm Warning in effect until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility, especially tonight. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero late tonight could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Expect very heavy snowfall to occur between 4 PM and 10 PM EST this evening. During that period, snowfall rates of 1 to 2 to possibly as much as 3 inches per hour will occur at times, making travel especially difficult.

Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches,greatest along and north of Highway US-2. Sleet may mix with the snow around Menominee. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. Most of the snow accumulation will occur between 2 PM and 7 PM EST. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible at times.
