On February 24th, the Hiawatha Music Co-op is pleased to showcase the inner poet and songwriter talents of Troy Graham from 7-8 pm on the Live At The Fold stage. His new solo album is being completed and audiences will receive a sneak peek of his new material during the performance.
Graham, otherwise known as Great Lakes Graham, is a native to Marquette, Michigan. He is a folk singer-songwriter, poet, children’s entertainer, and workshop leader. He has spent his adult life playing music professionally with various groups ranging in genre from old-time, bluegrass, folk, indie and gospel.
Graham has independently recorded over a dozen plus different music albums and has published poetry in four books. Musically, he is well known for his decade long tour with bluegrass band, Sparrow Tree (2007-2017). He played for Hiawatha Traditional Music Virtual Festival 2021 as a solo act and will play for us again live at the 2022 Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival in July.
His passion is encouraging youth and leading interactive poetry workshops along with musical performances. You will find him playing at libraries, schools, festivals and other concert series. Troy Graham has been an active member in his local arts community hosting other artists and music events for several years.
Graham published a new poetry book, “Freshwater Mermaids” in April 2021, available on Amazon. He also released an album called, “UnEarth Your Imagination” in June 2021. He is an avid songwriter, composer and has had some of his songs featured in a short film, “Captivity” on Amazon Prime.
The Live at the Fold (LATF) series is a Hiawatha Music Co-Op sponsored monthly music production featuring original folk singer-songwriters from near and far. The “Fold” word comes from the sentiment that we bring folks “into the fold,” a gathering or place, where a group of people with the same beliefs or interests welcome others into the group. It is a metaphor for welcoming new friendships.
Located in the Village Shopping Center just a few doors down from Yooptone Music, “The Fold” was established in May of 2018 to provide Hiawatha with a venue to hold small intimate concerts and house their main office. Equipped with a custom-made stage, lights, and sound, it offers a cozy venue to showcase musicians for friends and families alike. Since the 2020 pandemic, the organization has provided a live-stream for LATF on its Facebook page: www.facebook.com/HiawathaMusicFestival and records performances for later viewing.
Join us for this live in-person event on Thursday, February 24, 7-8 pm at “The Fold.” (1015 N. Third St. #9 in Marquette). Events are family-friendly, and donations are encouraged to support local musicians and the Co-op.
