There will be 74 floats in the Marquette Independence Day Parade on Tuesday,starting at Washington and McClellan. This is the 21st year that the Kiwanis Club has sponsored the Parade with the City of Marquette. The theme is Stars & Stripes Forever.
The Parade starts at 2pm and line up is at 1pm. Cross streets will be closed around 1:15pm.
The Parade begins with the Rolling Thunder Superior Hoggs motorcycle club, then local police cars, then the Color Guard led by American Legion, other local veterans, and Boy Scouts, followed by a Ukrainian flag float to show support for Ukraine.
Next comes our 10 VIPS in convertibles: the Grand Marshall is Nheena Ittner, the retiring Director of the UP Children’s Museum, Marquette City Mayor Cody Mayer, Dr. Brock Tessman, President of
NMU, Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs, Tonya Darner COO and Christine Stryker CNO of UPHS, James Provost UP Veteran of Year, Micah Heath City Police Officer of the Year, Brandon
Cory City Fire Fighter of Year and Andrew Rickauer President of Kiwanis Club.
Crowd favorites are bands, and we have three bands: MSHS band and Dance Team, the Superior Pipers with bagpipes, and the NMU Pep Band. Another crowd favorite is the Ahmed Clowns.
There will be three prizes for the best floats based on: participation, youth involvement, decorations, costumes, music and crowd appeal.
The prizes for Nonprofits are $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd and $200 for 3rd. The prizes for Businesses are: a display trophy for 1st and a plaque for 2nd.
