Alger County voters have approved a tax increase to fund the Alger County Transit system, known as ALTran. The current millage is 0-point-75 mills. The new millage rate is one mill, which will bring in an extra 140-thousand extra dollars per year for the next five years. Tuesday’s vote was 1,543 yes to 948 no, or 61-percent yes to 39-percent yes.
Alger County voters also approved renewals of the 911 and Dispatch service millage by 77-percent yes to 23-percent no (1,940 yes to 562 no). And the renewal proposal for the Michigan State University Extension Service passed 1,543 yes to 948 no (62-percent yes to 38-percent no). This will continue agricultural and 4-H services for another five years.
The Alger County Senior Services millage renewal was also approved. This was a slight increase from the current 0.4874 mills to 0.5 mills. The vote was 1,836 yes to 562 no (77-percent yes to 23-percent no).
