A Community Health Campaign led by the Marquette County Health Department and the Marquette County Planning Division has kicked off and will run into early 2021. Officials ask that we “Mask Up Marquette!” and encourage friends and family to do so as well.
The Campaign encourages Covid-19 prevention measures within Marquette County and shares vital information, including local and regional data with community leaders and the general public on an online platform. The outreach campaign consists of social media posts, television and streaming advertisements using the hashtag #maskupmqt to promote the use of face coverings, handwashing, social distancing, and staying home if you feel sick.
“Please wear a mask; it ultimately protects us all!” states Dr. Kevin Piggott with the Marquette County Health Department.
www.maskupmqt.org is the local resource to find information on official guidance and directives regarding Covid-19, the Pure Michigan Business Pledge, Covid-19 FAQs, and downloadable #maskupmqt outreach materials. The Covid-19 Dashboard created and maintained weekly by the Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Regional Commission (CUPPAD) visually displays data and trending data for Marquette County, the UP (Region 8) and statewide Covid-19 data.
The Community Foundation of Marquette County and the Flagstar Foundation provided supplemental funding to support the Mask Up Marquette campaign.
“We are grateful to be a part of this partnership during these often confusing times. With so many mixed messages about COVID-19, this locally-driven initiative gives clear information on best practices to keep our families and our communities safe.” states Gail Anthony, CEO, Community Foundation of Marquette County.
As we see Covid-19 case numbers and hospitalizations rise in the Upper Mid-West, it is more important now than ever to stay vigilant with key preventative measures to slow the spread of the virus as we enter the winter season. Local officials would like all Marquette County residents and visitors to follow this guidance to protect us all:
Stay home if you feel sick,
Wear face masks in shared spaces,
Maintain a minimum six-foot distance from others,
Use good personal hygiene and wash hands frequently,
Avoid crowded spaces,
Sanitize touch points
