Voters in the Carney-Nadeau Public Schools will be asked Tuesday to approve a millage request to pay for new windows, playground equipment, and bleachers in the gym.
Superintendent Adam Cocco says the ones they have need to be replaced.
“The windows are close to 40 years old,” Cocco told RRN News. “They were installed in 1984, and the ones before them were installed in 1944. Portions of our playground are 50, 60 years old. Most parts are more like 30 years old. Bleachers are pushing 30 years old. You know, after three decades of usage and kids climbing all over them, things just wear out. We only ask when we see a need, and we try to get as much life as possible out of things. But we feel now is the time that these things get replaced.
He says this proposal is different from the one that voters rejected earlier this year.
“We were going to have an out-building with a robotics lab and fitness center in it,” Cocco said. “We did find a workable option for the fitness center, so we deleted that building from the proposal.”
This one is for the same amount of money, a 2.5 mill tax increase. But it would be levied for half of the amount of time as the earlier proposal: three-and-a-half years instead of seven.
Polls are open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. CST. We’ll report the results as soon as they’re released.
