“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Or in the case of the building of a Habitat home; a single nail. Join Marquette County Habitat for Humanity as they celebrate the journey of the Hodge family with the dedication of the 107th Habitat home next Thursday, May 5th at 6pm at 250 Silver Street, Ishpeming.
The path to homeownership for Jon and Jane Hodge began with their approval as a partner family in September of 2020. A partner family must demonstrate a need for safe, affordable housing and be willing to partner with Habitat, including putting in 250 sweat equity hours, or invested time, into the project. Groundbreaking happened in May 2021 and construction commenced.
True to all Habitat builds, the organization hosted multiple local and out-of-town volunteer groups and it was with their many hands, including the Hodge’s, that walls were raised, windows installed, and interiors were finished.
This spring saw the last of the to-do list checked off and where once there was an empty lot, now stands an affordable, decent and energy efficient home; the 107th home that Marquette County Habitat for Humanity has built in its 30 years of operations. Stop by the dedication for cake, refreshments and a ceremony to mark the beginning of the homeownership journey for the Hodge’s.
