LMAS District Health Department joins communities and individuals across the United States to recognize National Prevention Week (NPW) from Sunday, May 8, through Saturday, May 14.
NPW is a public education platform which highlights progress in both substance use prevention and in mental health services, while also raising awareness of need for additional services so that all residents can have easy access to the care they need.
“The primary focus of NPW is to strengthen the community, build resilience, and create hope for individuals by raising awareness and promoting prevention,” says LMAS Harm Reduction Nurse Monica Eriksen.
There is a need for improved crisis response and mental health care.
“We hope to inspire the LMAS communities to take preventative action in their own lives by advocating for their mental health and reducing stigma,” says Health Education Coordinator Josh Mickelson.
