The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that Hope at the Inn (HATI) has begun to pursue their independent status as a non-profit.
HATI has operated for the past 10 years under the charitable license of The Salvation Army, and The Salvation Army has operated as the fiduciary for this organization. The board of HATI informed The Salvation Army that they will now operate as an independently funded organization.
The Salvation Army has committed to continue as a key partner in the homeless solution for Delta County and will continue to operate the warming center each morning for HATI beneficiaries.
The warming center operates in The Salvation Army building at 3001 5th Ave South in Escanaba and provides showers, laundry facilities, and casework support for residents of the shelter. Additionally, The Salvation Army will continue to support HATI as a member/hosting church for the HATI shelter. HATI relies on the continued support of the local churches to house the homeless during the winter months. A list of supporting churches can be found at hopeattheinn.org. Non-perishable food donations for the HATI program will continue to be collected at The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army will continue to proactively fight homelessness, with its other programs such as utility assistance, rental assistance, transportation, food pantry, and community lunch programs.
“We are excited to see the HATI board and volunteers take this next step in their organization,” said Captain Kim Winters, Corps Officer at The Salvation Army Escanaba location. “We are also committed to our continuing support of this group’s efforts in any way we can as a member church moving forward”. She indicated that any donations received by The Salvation Army addressed to HATI will be forwarded to the newly formed HATI organization. Donation information is listed below.
As a reminder, the HATI shelter is a seasonal program and is closed for the season. If you are in need of homeless services, please contact the Community Action intake line at 1-800-562-9762 x207.
