CLICK TO LISTEN TO JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH BOB LORINSER
Jack Bergman will be returning to Washington for another two years.
The three-term Republican from Watersmeet won in Tuesday’s First Congressional District election by a wide margin over Democrat Dr. Bob Lorinser.
As votes were still being counted at 3:00 a.m. ET, Bergman was declared the winner by a margin of 60.1 percent to 37.3 percent (225,000 votes to 140,000 votes).
“The constitiuents, the voters of the First District, have reaffirmed the fact that I’ve been doing the job for them for six years and they’re going to send me back for another two years,” Bergman told RRN News. “We’ve got a lot of things to do, and I’m going back there to support them.”
Lorinser, the medical director at the Marquette County Health Department, says he has no regrets.
“You have to, despite winning or losing, you have to fight for what you believe in,” Lorinser told RRN News. “I believe in the district, and I belive in the people even though they voted differently. That’s what I take away. It was well worth the ride. The reason I went into politics this time was for service. We ran with the mission of serving the people of the Upper Peninsula.”
Bergman had this message for voters.
“Thank you for turning out, and thank you for sending me back,” Bergman said. “All this means is you have giving me a mandate, and my staff as well, to work that much harder for you and to give you results. I look forward to going back there to fight for the People of Michigan and the First District.”
Lorinser says it was quite a campaign.
“I got to meet some wonderful people across this big district,” Lorinser said. “My car seems to be able to find any place now. It was a journey. It’s been a journey and a ride well worth taking.”
