The sinking fund millage proposal in the Munising Public Schools lost by a razor-margin in Tuesday’s special election.
The proposal failed by 23 votes, 456 no to 433 yes. The district was looking for a tax increase over a ten-year period to be used for building upgrades, notably, window replacements. The district also wanted to install new security cameras and upgrade lighting systems.
Meanwhile, the Marquette-Alger RESA is celebrating a victory in its millage election. A proposal to raise more money for special education programs passed, 7,055 yes to 5,684 no. Alger County voters rejected that proposal, too, 797 no to 699 yes. But it passed overhwelmingly in Marquette County.
The NICE Community Schools in west Ishpeming had its millage renewal proposal pass, as voters braved heavy snow to get to the polls. The vote was 823 yes to 253 no.
We’re still waiting for the Iron Mountain Public Schools election results. Iron Mountain was seeking a $16.9 million tax increase to build a new elementary school and early childhood center on a centralized campus.
