The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to two overdue hikers on the North Country Trail in Northern Marquette County Monday (9/14/26) night
Two sixty- five year old women from the Flint area were walking a twenty mile section of the North Country Trail from the Mulligan Plains to the McCormick Wilderness tract. They were dropped off at the trail around 10:00am Monday morning and were to be picked up at 7:00pm On County Road 607 in Michigamme Twp.
When the two hikers did not arrive by 9:00pm, their driver called for help.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team deployed to the North Country Trail and shortly after 3:00am located the hikers. The hikers were in good health and were transported to their awaiting ride.
The hikers encountered rougher than expected trail conditions and rain, which slowed down their progress.
