Businesses in the Green Bay and Appleton areas can reopen after the health departments in Brown and Outagamie Counties dropped their local Stay at Home orders Friday afternoon.
The Cities of DePere and Appleton also dropped their orders Friday afternoon.
Manitowoc and Winnebago Counties also dropped their orders on Friday, while Marinette, and Oconto Counties did not put local orders in place after the governor’s orders were rejected by the Supreme Court.
The move comes after the Wisconsin Supreme Court voted late Wednesday to throw out Gov. Tony Evers’ orders, calling them unconsitutional.
Many cities and counties quickly issued local orders to take the place of the overturned state order, but on Friday, one by one, they rescinded the order, saying that they could not stand up to potential legal challenges.
Local authorities in the Green Bay and Fox Valley warned that the COVID-19 threat is still real, and people should follow the Wisconsin Department of Health Services guidelines of social distancing and hygiene, like frequent hand washing and staying home when not feeling well.
Businesses are allowed to reopen with no government restrictions, but it will be up to individual business on when and how to do so. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has published reopening guidelines.
One exception is Door County, which is keeping a local Stay at Home order in place through the middle of next week.
