The number of coronavirus cases, fueled by the delta variant , continue to rise across Michigan and parts of the Upper Peninsula.
But so far, it has not led to an increase in deaths.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday announced 3,962 new positive test results for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. That’s an average of 1,321 new cases per day.
No new deaths were reported over those three days in Michigan, although officials went back through old death certificates and matched three deaths to previous positive test results.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 81 new cases reported and no new deaths. That’s an average of 27 new cases per day in the region.
The most new cases reported were in Delta County, with 25 new positive tests over those three days. Gogebic County added 13 cases and Houghton County 11, and the Western U.P. Health Department confirmed the presence of the delta variant.
The next coronavirus report will be released Tuesday afternoon.
