The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) is extending an invitation to community members across Marinette and Menominee Counties to participate in the Safeguarding Our Communities program training.
It will take place at noon on Wednesday, April 6th.
It provides an overview of opioids, suggests actions to address problems, demonstrates how to administer Narcan and highlights the Syringe Service Programs run by local Public Health departments. Those attending this training will be eligible to receive a free personal medication lock box valued at $40.
“Every 5-and-a-half minutes someone dies from a drug overdose in the U.S. More than 100,000 people died in the past year alone – the highest number on record,” stated Paula Gruszynski, MMACF Executive Director. “Many of these tragedies could have been prevented if more people were aware of harm reduction measures.”
Participation includes in-person training at the NWTC Event Center, 1601 University Drive, Marinette. Lunch will be available at 11:30am, provided by the MMACF. People may also choose to participate remotely (virtually) via the Community Foundation’s GoToMeeting account. All those who are interested in attending, either in-person or virtually, should register with the Community Foundation. Participation is cost free.
“We partnered with the M&M Area Community Foundation on this harm reduction training to raise awareness about common-sense ways to save lives, such as distributing the opioid overdose reversal drug, naloxone, to people who use drugs and their loved ones,” said Lynda Rastall, NWTC Nursing Instructor.
To register for the April 6th event please contact the Community Foundation at 906-864-3599. Registration closes at 4pm on Monday, April 4th. Those interested in joining virtually will receive log-in details upon registration.
