Michigan Tech’s Center for Educational Outreach would love to see you on Tuesday as they welcome to campus nearly 700 eighth and ninth grade students from across the Western Upper Peninsula to experience Mind Trekkers at the OneUP Copper Trail Festival.
This event will feature hands-on STEM demonstrations designed to spark curiosity and showcase career opportunities. In partnership with UP Michigan Works!, the MiSTEM Network, and area businesses, students will discover firsthand the awe and power of science through experimentation.
From being inside a bubble to skewering a balloon without popping it, to playing a piano made of bananas — Mind Trekkers serves to bring communities together to support an educational ecosystem and build a strong future workforce in STEM.
The event will take place in the SDC Varsity Gym — often referred to as the Wood Gym — from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (I’m told the best times to capture footage and photos for news stories will be around 10 a.m. and around 1:45 p.m.) It is the first of four festivals in the OneUP Mind Trekkers Tour, a collaboration with UP Michigan Works! and the MiSTEM Network that will also bring Mind Trekkers to Escanaba, Marquette, and Sault Ste. Marie in the coming year.
