An elderly man from Lower Michigan ran a stop sign at the intersection of the Crossroads, County Road 480 and M-553, south of Marquette on Momday morning.
The Marquette County Sheriff says it happened at around 9:30 in the morning at the busy Sands Township intersection when the 70-year-old from suburban Detroit missed the stop sign and hit a vehicle that was driving southbound on M-553. Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the incident, and the driver of the vehicle that was hit was taken to UP Health System for treatment of apparent minor injuries. A passenger in the downstate man’s car was looked over by paramedics at the scene. Traffic was slowed to a crawl in that area fot about a half-hour.
