The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported on Tuesday afternoon that there were 373 new positive coronavirus cases in the state, and there were five new deaths in the state.
The state also went back through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 27 more deaths to the state’s total using that method.
Michigan now has 63,870 confirmed positive cases and 5,947 COVID-19 deaths.
Michigan also tracks “probable” cases and deaths. Those are people who do not have a positive test result confirmed, but health officials believe their illnesses or deaths were related to COVID-19.
As of Tuesday, the state lists an additional 6,858 cases and 246 deaths in the “probable” category.
There have been 161 confirmed positive cases and 18 deaths linked to COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula.
Chippewa County announced five new cases on Tuesday and Delta County announced two new cases. Mackinac County announced one additional case.
The Chippewa County Health Department issued the following statement:
“The health department acknowledges that cases of COVID-19 have rapidly increased within the past four days in Chippewa County. We would like to remind community members to adhere to social distancing practices, wear a mask in public places and disinfect commonly used surfaces often. As the holiday weekend approaches, it is imperative that residents take responsibility to protect themselves and their loved ones.”
There have also been seven “probable” cases listed in the Upper Peninsula.
The state now lists 51,099 people as having “recovered”. This means that they are still alive at least 30 days after having a positive test confirmed, or being diagnosed with COVID-19.
As of Tuesday, the state completed 1,222,547 tests, including 160,437 tests for antibodies and 1,062,116 diagnostic tests.
