Members of the United States National Luge Team will be honored by Congressman Jack Bergman in Negaunee on Saturday, July 23rd at 10am.
This will take place at the Negaunee High School track prior to their monthly national team testing. They are being given a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the US House of Representatives honoring their athletic achievements in international competition with the US National Luge Team.
This recognition has been placed in the Congressional Records in Washington DC earlier this year.
The team departed on Christmas eve 2021 and returned February 8, 2022.
Torrey Cookman and Katie Cookman both of Marquette, Kurt Bates of Ishpeming, and Henry Anderson of Appleton traveled through Germany to Austria and Italy.
They competed in both Junior and Senior World Cup Natural Track races. Zane Farnsworth of Marquette competed in the World Cup Natural track senior division traveling through Germany to Austria, Italy and through Hungary to Romania. Their coach Keith Whitman is a L’Anse native and resides in Escanaba.
