The City of Escanaba Recreation Department is happy to announce a $5,000 anonymous donation to the Catherine Bonifas Civic Center’s After School Program.
The program is for youth in 4th to 12th grades and consists of use of the gym, gameroom, laptops, wi-fi, food/snacks, distribution of hygiene products and school supplies all within a supervised, safe environment. The hours for the youth in 4th to 12th grades are Monday to Friday 2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 12:00 p.m. –6:30 p.m.
Recreation Director Kim Peterson stated, “The program was closed for over two years due to Covid restrictions and staffing levels. Since we opened back up again on October 3, 2022, we have over 100 youth registered. We were unsure how the program would be received since we were closed for so long, but the high numbers within a short period of time definitely show a need for such programs within the community. We are extremely grateful and proud to receive this great donation to continue the program and provide this service to the youth.”
