On November 5th, 2022, following a year long investigation, detectives from UPSET (Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team) arrested a 55 year old, male from Pelkie, MI., for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and Cocaine.
UPSET detectives had developed information that the suspect had been bringing in large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine to Baraga County and were able to make several undercover drug purchases of both drugs. Detectives were able to determine that the suspect was traveling back from Milwaukee, WI on November 5th and set up surveillance to locate the vehicle. The vehicle was located on M-189 near Iron River, MI and a traffic stop was conducted by the MSP Hometown Security Team (HST) near Covington, MI along with troopers from the Calumet Post.
An exterior search of the vehicle was conducted by HST K-9 at which time the K-9 indicated that illegal drugs were in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle troopers discovered a quarter pound of illegal drugs including cocaine and methamphetamine in a magnetic storage box that was attached to the inside of the engine compartment. An additional search warrant was executed at a residence on Sarya Rd in Pelkie, MI. During the search detectives seized 15 handguns, 7 long guns and 2500 rounds of ammunition.
Digital scales, a money counter and other drug paraphernalia were also seized.
The suspect’s name will not be released until his arraignment in 97 th District Court, Baraga County. The case is being reviewed by the Baraga County Prosecutor’s office and additional charges are expected. UPSET was assisted by MSP–Hometown Security Team, MSP-Calumet Post, Baraga County Sheriff and DynamiteTowing.
