The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) recently awarded a $750 mini-grant to expand a free diaper program serving families across Marinette and Menominee Counties. According to Jo Anne Nipple, Chair of the Baby Care Hope Program, the Pioneer Presbyterian Church provides vouchers for diapers for underprivileged families with newborns. The vouchers may be redeemed once a week at the church in Marinette. The church was in need of additional funding to meet the need for expansion of the program to provide diapers for children beyond one year of age.
Many state and national programs do not recognize diapers as a material necessity and therefore do not allow funds to be used to purchase them. According to research, approximately 50% of babies born in our area qualify for the Baby Care Hope program.
