Marinette Public Schools voters narrowly approved a $60 million dollar tax increase on Tuesday to make major improvements to the district buildings. The vote within city limits was “yes” by a wide margin, while those in the outlying areas voted no.
In the end, the proposal passed by 40 votes, 2,703 yes to 2,663 no.
But the referendum in Wausaukee failed, 1,295 no to 885 yes. Marinette County voters largely voted “red”, selecting Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany over Democrat David Crowley. Crowley, however, won the statewide vote.
