Tyler Dennis McNellis, 28, of Escanaba was sentenced to 12 month in the Delta County Jail following the entry of a plea to Attempted Possession of Methamphetamine (punishable by up to 5 years in prison) and Possess Counterfeit Notes with Intent to Utter (punishable by up to 7 years in prison).
On April 15, 2021, officers from Escanaba Department of Public Safety located a vehicle matching the description of a “Be on the Lookout” alert. McNellis was identified as a rear seat passenger. K9 Jet conducted a search of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. A large amount of what was determined to be counterfeit cash was located in the rear seat, where McNellis was seated.
On May 3, 2021, deputies from Delta County Sheriff’s Office, MI conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired registration tag. The driver was identified as McNellis. A search of the vehicle was conducted based on probable cause. A baggie with crystal substance was located where the roof meets the windshield. The crystal substance was determined to be methamphetamine.
