Mitchel James Melin, 35, of Bark River, Michigan, was sentenced to 12 months in the Delta County Jail following the entry of a plea to Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer (punishable by up to 2 years in prison).
On October 23, 2021, officers from Escanaba Department of Public Safety responded to a hotel in the city of Escanaba for a report of unwanted subjects.
Upon arrival, one of the individuals was identified as Melin.
Melin appeared under the influence of a substance, with slurring words and drug paraphernalia all over the room. Melin was told he needed to leave and became combative. Melin told began verbally assaulting officers. Officers attempted to escort Melin from the room, and he did not comply.
Melin needed to be physically removed, first from the room, then the hotel itself. Officers eventually placed Melin under arrest due to his obstructive and resistive actions.
