The Michigan Coalition for Freedom, a bipartisan, non-profit advocacy group, held the second of its Gubernatorial Values Forums Friday night in Marquette.
Candidates Ryan Kelley, Ralph Rebandt, Michael Markey Jr., and Douglas Levesque attended.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer was invited, but did not attend. Neither did five Republican candidates who’s spots on the primary ballot are in doubt because of alleged fraud in collecting petition signatures.
Two other Republican candidates also did not appear.
The audience of mainly Upper Peninsula residents voiced their appreciation for candidates who made the journey to Marquette, noting that they were often overlooked on campaign trails. They also commented on the importance of addressing issues and values that are not discussed substantively in other forums. An SMS straw poll of all 2022 gubernatorial candidates was held during the event with the top three placing candidates being:
- Ralph Rebandt 39.8%
- Ryan Kelley 26.2%
- Michael Markey Jr. 21.4%
Notably, in a candidate forum representing multiple political parties, incumbent, Whitmer received no votes. Our next Gubernatorial Values Forum will be held in Detroit on June 17th, at Grace Christian Church, Sterling Heights.
In addition to holding forums, the Michigan Coalition for Freedom is also working to identify, recruit, and train individuals desiring to bring a Biblical values perspective back into state and local government politics.
