The number of new coronavirus cases continues to drop according to the latest report from the state Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
That report shows 18,453 new cases for the period of May 26-June 1, which averages to 2,636 new cases per day. That compares with last week’s numbers of 19,535 new cases, or a daily average of 2,791 cases.
The state health department, however, says those numbers may be low, because many people are testing at home and those numbers often aren’t reported.
There were 131 new COVID deaths in the past week across Michigan.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, new deaths were reported in Marquette, Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties. One death was removed from Keweenaw Counmty’s total. There were 351 new cases reported in the U.P., with the most, 96, coming in Marquette County.
