The Delta County League of Women Voters will sponsor a candidate forum for contested primary races in the 108th State Representative District and Delta County Commissioner District 3. The forum will be held on Wednesday July 13 at 7pm in the Escanaba City Hall chamber meeting room, 410 Ludington Street.
Republican candidates for the 108th State Representative District who have committed to participating are David Prestin, Mark H. Simon, Casey C. Hoffman and Kurt Perron. Republican candidates for the County Commissioner District 3 who will attend are Bob Barron and Christine Williams.
The forum will be sponsored by the Delta County League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women and the Delta County Chamber of Commerce.
Ann Bissell, Voter Services Chair for the League of Women Voters, explained that not all local contested races will be represented. “Due to LWV policy, forums need more than one candidate participating. It is called the ‘empty chair’ policy. When multiple candidates for an office are on the ballot and only one candidate chooses to attend a forum, then no candidate for that office will be permitted to appear. It is to prevent any appearance of favoring the attending candidate.”
