The fire that began late Thursday night at Resolute Forest Products last Thursday night continues burning. As of Monday afternoon, fire crews from across Wisconsin and northern Michigan were on and helping the overburdened local crews that worked throughout the weekend.
No injuries were reported in the fire, and officials believe that it will continue to burn with so much layers of paper inside. Residents are being urged to stay away from that area, and to monitor the air quality in their area.
UPDATE FROM THE CITY OF MARINETTE:
The industrial fire in the City of Menominee is expected to burn for several days. As wind direction changes city residents may smell smoke and possibly see soot on outdoor surfaces. The EPA is on-site and conducting air monitoring. Currently they are not finding any chemical levels above health based screening levels. Further information will be released as we receive it.
UPDATE FROM THE CITY OF MENOMINEE:
Citizens are reminded that air space around and near the fire location is restricted air space and the use of personal drones is prohibited until further notice. Trash and bulk pick up on streets closed by the fire will be on schedule tomorrow (Tuesday).
