The Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce membership chose five new Board of Directors members. These five individuals round out the roster of fifteen Board members and are elected by the membership for a three year term.
The newly elected 2023 Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce Board members are as follows:
TYLER SWANSON, Business Banker with Northern Interstate Bank
Tyler was born and raised in our area and is passionate about our local community. He wants to do everything he can to help other local businesses succeed and thrive. “I believe it is essential for all of us to come together to help create opportunity locally that not only attracts more people to our area but also benefits everyone around us,” noted Tyler. Tyler has a desire to develop events/fundraisers that not only help the Chamber but also all the members of I t. He has numerous years of event planning and marketing experience and will enjoy the opportunity to help in any way possible.
MICK GAYAN Marketing Director, First National Bank & Trust
Mick has an extensive background in marketing as well as involvement in supporting and organizing community events. He looks forward to bringing this skillset to the Chamber to help foster the continued growth and development of our business community. Mick’s commitment is to contribute in meaningful ways to create positive results. “There are many opportunities to build upon the work that the Chamber has established. Bringing in new perspectives are a great way to ensure that that work continues to evolve and grow through collaboration with the Chamber board and Chamber business members,” noted Mick.
KEVIN HANSON, Owner, Office Planning Group
Kevin is currently serving on the Chamber board as Secretary. He is also the President of The Office Planning Group as well as President of the local Bowling Association, Secretary/Treasurer of his two bowling leagues, Chairman for the4 DIISD Mechatronics Advisory committee, Assistant Bowling Coach for the IMHS bowling teams and Assistant soccer coach for the KHS soccer team.
ALEXANDER CAREY, Owner, Carey Disaster Restoration, Carey Duct Cleaning & Cleaning Service, Inc.
Alex is currently serving on the Chamber board. He is also President/Owner of Carey Duct Cleaning and Cleaning Service as well as Carey Disaster Restoration. He likes to bring fresh ideas to the board for a younger generation and generations to follow. When the Chamber is in need of contacts to get projects taken care of, Alex knows who to call as he has many contacts and keeps the board in the loop about what’s going on in our area.
BRUCE ORTTENBURGER, Mentor, SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives)
Bruce is currently serving on the Chamber board and is a lifelong advocate for small business. He has a vast working knowledge of the chamber of Commerce, as he served as President and CEO of the Dickinson Area Partnership for 12 years. Being a prior Healthcare co-owner and building manager, Bruce is knowledgeable in the community’s needs. He is an asset to the Chamber with his vast experience in both business and governmental affairs. His committee experience includes IM-K Rotary club
(Chair 2 years); Bay West Citizen’s Advisory Board (multiple terms); Dickinson County Economic Development Corporation (Chair, Vice Chair); Iron Mountain DDA (Chair); Pine Grove Country Club (Board member); Dickinson County Planning Commission (Chair); Upper Peninsula Economic Development Alliance (Chair); Dickinson county Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (Administrator); American Planning Association (Founding Member); Michigan Planning Association (Founding Member); American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and Councilman for the City of Frankfort, MI.
Each year, elections are held to nominate five positions for the fifteen member board. Returning board members for 2023 include:
Teresa Schettler, PR/Marketing Specialist with Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson; Matthew Lutz, Senior Vice President with The First National Bank & Trust; Chris Hanley, ChFC, Agent/Owner of Chris Hanley State Farm Agency; Cole Grenier, Business Banker with The First National Bank & Trust; Jim Carollo, The Pasty Oven; Isaac Micheau, Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Iron Mountain; Tanya Hiltonen, Deputy City Clerk with the City of Kingsford; Carmen Thomma-Frank, Business Services Specialist with Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!; Jerry Sardina, Superintendent with Iron Mountain Public Schools; Louis Steigerwald, Superintendent with Norway-Vulcan Area Schools
Chamber Executive Director, Suzanne Larson, stated: “I’m happy to welcome newly elected Tyler and Mick to the Chamber Board of Directors. Their backgrounds will benefit our Chamber in many ways as we move forward to seek new ways to improve our Chamber and provide excellent value for our members. I’m also very happy to welcome back Kevin, Bruce and Alex. Their involvement with our Chamber has been extremely valuable over the years. All fifteen members of our 2023 Board of Directors are valuable, indispensable members of our Chamber. I’m excited to work with each of them this year to better our Chamber and our community!”
