The St. Jude’s Adult Foster Care Home on2 22nd Street in Escanaba was evacuated late Wednesday night because of a fire. Escanaba Public Safety says the call came in at about 11:30 p.m. that flames and black smoke were coming from the back of the building.
Public Safety officers helped staff to get all of the residents out of there, and to safety at the Holy Name Catholic School. Turns out there was a malfunction in the furnance in the basemement that caused all of that smoke. Tennants were eventually brought back to their rooms after the smoke was vented out.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
